Posted by Maria Nakirya

For along time people have been associating the banana fruit with only high water content, its important that you add them to your daily diet as it has a lot of other nutritional values and is counted as one of the most nutritious food types of the world. One is advised to eat at least a banana or two a day.

Bananas contain three natural sugars, Glucose, sucrose and fructose, together with fiber. It also gives an immediate and constant energy boost. It is further rich in irons which stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood which helps to reduce anemia. When compared to 1 apple, 1 banana contains 4 times the proteins, twice the carbohydrates,3 times the phosphorous,5 times vitamin A contents and iron. and twice the other minerals and vitamins an apple contains.

The low salt and high potassium content in a banana helps to protect people from blood pressure. It also protects one from the high risks of strokes that cause death to many people. It is an important brain booster as it helps one to be more alert most of the time especially school going children.

Bananas controls heart burn that many pregnant women suffer from. They also help overcome hangover when taken as a banana milk shake mixed with some honey. The banana calms the stomach.

People suffering from depressions can take a bananas as its high content trytophan (protein type) makes people relax leading to an improvement. Then, because of its soft texture, banana is used as against intestinal disorder. It is a good controller of constipation .It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten by people with chronic cases without any distress by people with chronic cases. It coats the lining of the stomach neutralizing over acidity and reducing irritation.
People, who suffer from seasonal emotional disorders, should try the banana. They contain the natural mood enhancer that is useful to sad sufferers.

It’s good for people trying to give up smoking because of its high content in vitamin B6 and B12, potassium and magnesium. These help them recover from effects of nicotine extraction.
The amount of potassium in them helps to normalize the heart beat sending oxygen to the brain and regulating your body balance in water. When stressed, the metabolic rates rise, there by reducing the potassium levels. This can be reduced through eating the banana.

Once one rubs a mosquito bitten part with the banana inside part, it reduces irritation and swelling. The banana fiber can now be used to manufacture paper reducing costs of more expensive materials.

  4. Hallo Ximena
Thank you for your question. However, i must say that it is difficult to grade a middle sized banana. This is because of the new varieties that spring up everyday. These are of various sizes, thereby affecting ones ability to grade to “a middle sized banana”.

However, i have below is some information with accompanying links that may be useful to you: –
** “A medium sized banana contains about 100 calories and a large banana contains about 115 calories. An entire pound of peeled bananas contains about 260 calories” … http://www.dietbites.com/calories/calories-in-bananas-2.html

    ** “A medium-size banana contains a hair over 450 milligrams of potassium”… http://people.bu.edu/SALGE/fruit/joan.03-03-98.html)

    ** “A medium-size banana contains at least 450 mg of potassium” … http://www.indiaparenting.com/health/data/health10.shtml

    Hope this helps …
